Preakness Stakes Predictions
The Preakness Stakes betting odds are almost stacked and ready for the race to start. As every year, a total of 14 horses will look to capture the title of the fastest at the Pimlico Race Course. The Preakness race odds may be stacked against the favorites, but there is a clear list of some horses tipped as the top, particularly those from the most recent Kentucky Derby race.
Simplification
Simplification is an Antonio Sano-trained three-year-old horse that enters the race as a firm favorite. After finishing fourth in the Kentucky Derby, which was a surprise on its own, the story behind this race is that it has a high chance of finishing first. The odds intensify further when adding the Hall of Fame jockey, John Velasquez, into the mix.
Early Voting
Early Voting is an early favorite – no pun intended – entering the Preakness Stakes. The cold is trained by Chad C. Brown and has won three races leading into this race, with a single second place. They skipped the Kentucky Derby race, meaning that the horse should be rested for this one, giving them excellent Preakness Stakes betting odds.
Epicenter
Steve Asmussen, one of the best trainers in the game, will be training this horse, increasing their betting odds for the Preakness Stakes. The horse was primed to win the Kentucky Derby race as they entered as the favorite for much of the run. However, they came in second place, which still gives them a lot of chances to take Preakness instead.
Secret Oath
Secret Oath has a real advantage because it is trained by D. Wayne Lukas, a six-time Preakness winner. The horse did not complete at the Kentucky Derby, which we can assume was planned. Secret Oath is a true dark horse as Epicenter and Early Voting have been getting more attention and may surprise and come up on top.
Preakness Stakes Odds
As far as the current Preakness Stakes odds go, Simplification is the firm favorite. As the horse that finished second in the Kentucky Derby race, the horse is heavily favored to capture the crown. But they are not going to have an easy job with other forerunners like Creative Minister and Fenwick also being ranked high in the odds.
The current odds on the Preakness Stakes reflect a possible situation, but everything can change on race day. View the table for the current odds, however, keep in mind that they can change once the race starts, while the Preakness Stakes live odds can further shift along with the race.

How to Bet on Preakness Stakes
Preakness Stakes betting works similarly to other major horse races. Interested users will find a variety of bet types that go with the given markets.
Bettors have a variety of wagers that they can use and place bets on. The majority of operators will release similar types of offers, but there are some that may differ. Players can consider the following betting types in terms of betting opportunities and making Preakness Stakes best bets.
Straight Bets
There are three types of straight or basic bets when it comes to horse racing:
- Win: The horse is expected to win the race and finish first.
- Place: For the bet to be a winning one, the horse must finish first or second.
- Show: This type of bet requires a horse to finish in one of the first three places.
Exotic Bets
Exotic bets are perhaps considered advanced types of bets. Veteran players usually place these, but novices can also welcome to give it a go.
- Exacta: A bettor should select two horses that need to finish 1st and 2nd for the bet to go through.
- Trifecta: This type of bet requires selecting the three horses that are going to finish in the first three positions in the exact given order.
- Superfecta: The hardest type of bet, requiring you to successfully pick the first four places and the exact horses in the correct order.
Furthermore, the above-mentioned exotic bets can be boxed, also called Box Bets. This would require adjusting the payouts a bit, but it also makes it much easier to win. For instance, if you choose a Trifecta Box, it means betting on the top three horses to finish but not having to pick the exact order.

History of Preakness Stakes
Preakness actually pre-dates the Kentucky Derby as it introduced a stakes race for horses that are of three years before the Kentucky Derby. The initial event was held in 1873. The then-current governor of Maryland chose the name of the race based on the horse that bared the same name from Milton Holbrook Sanford’s stud.
The first Preakness drew only seven horses, with John Chamberlain’s three-year-old, Survivor, taking home the win and a winning purse of $2,050.
