Barstool offers lots of promos for new and existing customers, and since they are partnered with industry giant Penn National, it offers an intuitive and solid platform that is available on both iOS and Android devices.
SuperBook Sports
Retail Casino Partner: The Lodge Casino at Black Hawk
Originally from Las Vegas, SuperBook has expanded to a handful of states, including Colorado. Partnering with The Lodge Casino in Black Hawk and Jacobs Entertainment, SuperBook definitely has a solid foundation for success.

BetWildwood
Retail Casino Partner: Wildwood Casino
BetWildwood is a local company, operating only in Colorado. It has a retail sportsbook in Cripple Creek and an app available for both iOS and Android devices. It offers a range of betting styles including moneylines, point spreads, totals, futures, parlays, props and live betting.
The new user promos are solid, if unexceptional, but the bonuses are worth checking out. BetWildwood includes a variety of popular sports as well as some lesser known options like Australian football.
Smarkets
Retail Casino Partner: Bronco Billy’s Casino
Smarkets is based in the UK but has expanded its reach to the US after the 2018 overturning of PASPA. The Colorado app launched in June 2020 and is available for both iOS and Android users.
Offering a fresh and unique betting style, Smarkets allows users to bet against each other rather than a sportsbook. This style of betting, known as a betting exchange, is new to the US. The SBK mobile app is partnered with Full House Resorts, a Vegas-based casino operator. This betting exchange platform is one of only a few currently operating in the US.
PlayMaverick
Retail Casino Partner: Grand Z Casino
Maverick is another Colorado-only operator, offering wagers on a limited number of sports. All the biggest leagues are covered, but few lower-profile sports are available on this bare bones site.
The new customer promotions are solid, however; a deposit match and bonus bet are both available for new customers.
Sky Ute Sportsbook
Retail Casino Partner: Sky Ute Casino Resort
In an unusual twist, Sky Ute is owned and run by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Many tribes own and operate casinos, but very few get into the online sports betting game. Sky Ute decided to cut out the middleman and create their own sportsbook app.
So far it has been a good decision because the app is solid and the odds are competitive. If you want to support a local Colorado operator, be sure and check out the Sky Ute app on iOS or Android.
Tipico Sportsbook
Retail Casino Partner: Century Casino
Tipico is actually a German company that is quite popular in that part of the world. Like so many other sportsbooks, Tipico has come to America to try and expand its global reach. Also like many other sportsbooks, it went live in Colorado as its second state of operation after debuting in New Jersey.
Tipico has a great welcome offer and offers a wide variety of wagering options. It may not be a household name yet, but it’s worth checking out.
Elite Sportsbook
Retail Casino Partner: Red Dolly Casino
Elite is an Iowa-based casino company that owns three casino resorts in the state. They decided to get into the sportsbook game, first by opening Elite Sportsbook in Iowa. That went pretty well, so they did what all sportsbook operators seem to do, they expanded to Colorado!
Elite may not be a top operator in the state but it has built up a respectable presence by offering solid prices and excellent customer service.
PlayUp Sportsbook
Retail Casino Partner: Bull Durham Casino
Next up is PlayUp Sportsbook. This Australian-based operator is live in two states. Guess which ones. You got it! New Jersey and Colorado.
PlayUp doesn’t offer much that separates it from the competition, but it offers a pleasing green and black layout on the website and makes picking your favorite wagers as easy as possible.
Betsafe
Retail Casino Partner: Dostal Alley Casino
Last but not least on our list of Colorado sportsbooks is Betsafe. Owned by Swedish-based sportsbook giant Betsson, Betsafe is starting its American journey in Colorado. Betsson had long planned to come to the state, and it finally did so, opening up its Betsafe brand on March 28, 2023. For now, it’s only available on iPhones. An Android app should be available soon, but no word on whether Betsafe will be available in a browser version.
Be sure to check out our Betsafe Bonus Code.
Sportsbooks Coming Soon to Colorado
bet365
Bet365 is one of the biggest sportsbooks in the world, but so far the company is just live in New Jersey. Whenever bet365 decides to expand to Colorado, bettors in the state will be in for a treat. It is one of the best sportsbooks out there, offering great odds, an easy to use interface, and a wide variety of sports to wager on.
Betbull
The Betbull sports betting platform has been talked about here in America for several years, but it has yet to arrive in any state. WynnBET invested in the company a few years back but that hasn’t resulted in the company expanding here. It remains to be seen whether Betbull will come to Colorado, but if they do they will bring an industry leading sportsbook that is well-known in other countries.
CO Retail Sportsbooks
Residents of Cripple Creek, Black Hawk, and Central City are the only lucky cities that are allowed to have in-person retail sportsbooks. This is because those three cities have long had retail casinos and the state decided to allow the existing casinos to partner with sportsbooks and add retail sportsbooks at their existing locations.
There are 33 casinos in Colorado, and all of them are in the three cities mentioned above. Under the state law that legalized sports betting, each casino can partner with an online sportsbook, so we could potentially see up to 33 online sportsbooks in the state along with 33 retail sportsbooks.
We are now at about two dozen online sportsbooks and just about that many retail sportsbooks, but the three cities with casinos are in remote areas, so the market may not be able to absorb very many more retail locations. And frankly there aren’t very many sportsbooks in business that aren’t in Colorado, so we will probably see a few more come to the state, but the market is pretty full already.
All of this is a great thing for bettors in the state, who have an unrivaled selection of retail and online sportsbooks to choose from.
CO Land-based Retail Sportsbook Partners
As mentioned, each of the 33 casinos in the state qualify for a sports betting license and can open up a retail sportsbook on-site in addition to partnering with an online operator. The sportsbooks’ retail casino partners are listed above.
Several casinos have chosen to open up a retail sportsbook, but due mostly to the fact that the casino locations are remote and over 90% of wagering is done online in the state, other casinos are opting for an online-only licensing agreement. For example, BetMGM has partnered with the Midnight Rose Hotel and Casino located in Cripple Creek, but the Midnight Rose Hotel does not offer a BetMGM-branded sportsbook. Their license agreement is online-only.
Sports Betting Rules in Colorado
House Bill 1327 was signed into law in May of 2019. This bill made provisions for sports betting law (Proposition DD) to be drafted and voted on in the November 2019 general election. By a small margin, the sports betting law was passed by voters, and Colorado saw its first legal sportsbooks opening in the summer of 2020.
The Colorado online sports betting law has a few key points to note. If you’re looking to make a proposition (or “prop”) bet on collegiate sports in Colorado, you’re not going to be legally allowed to do so. Proposition bets are bets made on in-game events and not the final outcome of the game itself, and Colorado online sports betting prohibits prop bets on collegiate events. All other bets on college sports are legal.
Finally, Colorado online sports betting are taxed at a rate of 10% to support the Colorado Water Plan that will improve water quality for the Centennial State’s growing population.
CO Sportsbook Welcome Offer Types
Almost all sportsbooks offer some type of promotion or sportsbook bonus to entice new customers to check out their product. Promotions are everywhere, but they vary wildly.
You may find a few different ones here and there but these are the four most common types of new customer promotions and/or welcome offers:
- Bonus bet
- Deposit match
- No-deposit bonus bet
- Bonus credit
Sports Teams and Sportsbooks Partnerships
Colorado is home to many great sports teams, including a team playing in each of the four major US sports. Sports leagues like the NFL and NBA have many sportsbook partnerships, but individual teams, including all the major Colorado teams, also partner with major sportsbooks operating in the state.
Here are the sports teams in Colorado and their sportsbook partners:
Team | Sport | Sports Partners |
---|---|---|
Colorado Avalanche | NHL | DraftKings & PointsBet |
Colorado Rockies | MLB | Betfred Sports, DraftKings & WynnBET |
Colorado Mammoth | PLL | PointsBet |
Colorado Rapids | MLS | Tipico Sportsbook |
Denver Broncos | NFL | BetMGM & FanDuel |
Denver Nuggets | NBA | PointsBet |
University of Colorado | – | PointsBet |
CO Sportsbook Banking Options
Each sportsbook operating in Colorado has different options for deposits and withdrawals. Some offer only the biggest and most popular options, while others have many more choices, including some that are new to the market. Some only have 2-3 while others have 6 or more options.
We at OnlineBasketballBetting.net believe that more banking options is better for the bettor, because not everyone wants to link their sportsbook account to their checking account or open up another eWallet account. Many people prefer to only use cash when wagering, so that should be an option as well. Whatever your preference, chances are there is a banking option perfect for you.
The banking options offered by most sportsbooks in CO include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- ACH eCheck
- PayPal
- Visa/Mastercard/Discover (deposit only)
- Online banking
- Skrill
- PayNearMe (deposit only)
- Venmo
- Play+ branded prepaid card
- Wire transfer
- Cash at casino cage
- Gift card (deposit only)
- Check sent by mail
CO Sports Betting Guides
OnlineBasketballBetting.net has put together an extensive collection of betting guides covering every major sport and sporting event, and even some of the minor ones. Here is a list of the 15 most popular betting guides we offer, including everything from sports betting basics to a review of the ESPN+ streaming service.
CO Sportsbook Geolocation Tracking
In Colorado and any other state with mobile sports betting, the online sportsbooks need to confirm you are actually in the state before you can make a wager. This is because sportsbooks are licensed in each individual state in which they operate, and each state has different rules. Sportsbooks can pinpoint your location by using geotracking software. Geotracking on your phone is a breeze, but it takes a little more effort to confirm your location when you are on a computer.
If you have an iPhone, your location is already being tracked. All you have to do is approve the sportsbook’s request to “allow location access” while you are using the app. This request is usually made during the setup process when you are downloading the sportsbook app. That’s it. Once you log in, the sportsbook will automatically know where you are and will authorize you to make wagers as long as you are in Colorado or another state with legal online sports betting.
For those using a computer, there is an additional step. When you try to log into your favorite sportsbook from your laptop, it will most likely ask you to download a piece of software known as a geolocation tracker. GeoComply is the software used by the top sportsbooks. Once you download GeoComply, it will use its own technology to ensure you are where you say you are. And no, VPNs don’t work with GeoComply. After GeoComply confirms you are in Colorado or a state with legal online sports betting, you are cleared to wager. You only have to download GeoComply once. After it is on your computer, it will automatically be used by the sportsbook to check your location whenever you log in.
Gambling History in Colorado
Being a western, frontier state, Colorado has a long and colorful gambling history. From the high mountain saloon poker games to the cheating cowboys, Colorado has seen it all. Legal gambling in the state has a shorter history, but, like many states, it included the legalization of horse racing. In the 1940s, horse racing was legalized, and several tracks sprung up across the state. In 1990, legislation passed that allowed for casinos to open in Cripple Creek, Black Hawk, and Central City, three cities that had a long history of illicit gambling but had also seen better days and needed a tourist boost. Casino companies quickly entered the market and bettors followed, even though the cities are all in remote locations.
The casinos and state-run lottery games were the only gambling available in Colorado (along with one dusty, run-down horse track), until 2019, when the citizens of Colorado approve Proposition DD, which legalized mobile and retail sports betting in the state. This proved to be a very popular decision, because sports betting has exploded in popularity in Colorado, which is now one of the top US states for both the number of sportsbooks in operation and the revenue generated by sports betting.
CO Sportsbook Responsible Gaming Practices
The rise of legalized betting has unfortunately resulted in an increase in cases of problem gambling. This is a reality that is not ignored by the legal sports betting industry. All major sportsbooks have many policies and substantial resources directed to addressing problem gaming and offering services to those whose gambling has become more than just entertainment. The most common and, more importantly, effective measures taken by sportsbooks to address problem gambling include:
- Wager limits – Sportsbooks can limit how much a bettor can wager in a given day, month, or year
- Session time limits – All user sessions are tracked by the sportsbook, which has the option to limit how long someone can spend logged to their site
- Cool-off period – Bettors can ban themselves from using a sportsbook for a certain period of time. By choosing this option, the bettor will be unable to access their account
- Deposit limits – Similar to wager limits, sportsbooks or bettors can set limits on how much they can deposit in a certain period of time
- Self-exclusion – By signing up for a self-exclusion list through the state gambling regulatory agency, sportsbooks are required by law to prevent you from using their services. The player account information and self-exclusion application will be distributed to all regulated sportsbooks, who are then required to prevent the bettor from signing up for an account or using an existing account
- Phone/chat/text – The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) is a great resource for those seeking help with problem gambling. You can call or text the NCPG helpline any time at 800.522.4700 or you can chat confidentially with an expert at ncpgambling.org/chat. For more information on the NCPG, you can visit its website. Gamblers Anonymous is another helpful resource for those who would like more information on compulsive gambling and how to seek treatment.
Sports Betting in Neighboring States
Colorado is bordered by 7 states (!). Three of those states currently have some sort of legal sports betting available, one will have sports betting soon, one might get it at some point, one probably won’t get it but there’s always hope, and one is Utah. Here is a little more detail on the status of sports betting in each of Colorado’s neighbors:
Arizona – Online sports betting is fully legal in Arizona. Retail sportsbooks are popping up as well. Up to about two dozen operators are authorized to go live, and over a dozen are operating in the state already. The Arizona market is buzzing with locals and tourists alike busily making their wagers on all the biggest professional and college sporting events.
New Mexico – New Mexico was actually one of the first states to offer sports betting after PASPA was overturned in 2018. However, actual wagering is only allowed in person at a handful of tribal casinos in the state. Mobile betting is not permitted.
Wyoming – Sports betting is legal in Wyoming and is only available online. There are no retail casinos or sportsbooks in the state. In two unusual twists, bettors only have to be 18 to wager on sports in Wyoming, and sportsbooks are allowed to accept bitcoin as payment. A handful of operators have come to the state, which is obviously not a large market due to its small population base, but it has potential due to the millions of tourists who visit each year.
Nebraska – The Cornhusker State actually legalized sports betting in 2020, but regulators have been very slow to create any rules or make any real progress toward full legalization. Sports betting will come to Nebraska at some point, but as of now it will be limited to in-person only at the state’s licensed horse racing facilities.
Kansas – The legislature has debated whether to legalize sports betting in Kansas for several years now, without much progress. Sports betting is not legal in the state, but it may be in the future if the legislature decides to act on it. Stay tuned.
Oklahoma – Similar to Kansas, Oklahoma legislative leaders have gone back and forth for several years on whether to legalize sports betting. Unlike Kansas, it seems unlikely that sports betting will be coming to Oklahoma anytime soon.
Utah – It’s always tough to say something will never happen, but there is a 0.00% chance Utah will ever legalize sports betting. Due to the overwhelming influence of the Mormon church in the state legislature, sports betting will never be legal in Utah.
